SPECIALIST TEACHING
I offer one-to-one specialist literacy sessions for children of primary school age. Due to the co-occurrence of dyslexia and other specific learning difficulties, I have had experience of working with students with speech and language difficulties, dyscalculia, dyspraxia (DCD) and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
I like to consider myself as a creative teacher, receptive to trying different methods, including multi-sensory teaching to suit individual learning styles. I use the results of my informal/diagnostic assessments to devise a structured cumulative intervention programme that plays to a child’s strengths for learning to compensate for their weaknesses. My teaching ethos aims to boost skill levels alongside confidence and self-esteem. I am happy to work with students who have not had a full diagnostic assessment or have been assessed by another professional. In the case of younger children, intervention at a young age is recommended to enable the child to fully access the curriculum. Whenever possible, I liaise closely with the school and other external agencies to best support the child.
